Urium, Palo Cortado Sherry VORS, Andalucía, Spain
Tasting Note: You may not be able to buy first-growth Bordeaux, but you can buy the best of Palo Cortado Sherry, and this bottle is the top 1%.
When the waiter brought this wine to my table in Jerez de La Frontera, Spain he remarked “Only for Jerez” noting this is a special treat for Sherry’s home city.
Medium-intensity amber in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of brioche, buttered-medium-toasted toast, roasted almonds and walnuts, rancio and hints of fig.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied Palo Cortado Sherry has medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose ultimately completing with a buttery, long finish abounding with concentration and flavor intensity.
The midpalate is complex, rich and full without being obtuse.
Palo Cortado made in the best way.
