Weixelbaum, Strassertal Zweigelt 2015, Kamptal, Austria
Tasting Note: Your new summer, under-the-radar red that none of your friends are drinking.
The Zweigelt grape native to Austria produces refreshing, deep-colored reds with bright acidity and pleasing aromatics.
In summer, chill slightly in the refrigerator before you bring it outside to enhance acidity and florality.
Medium-intensity, tending towards deep ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of black plum, strawberry, cranberry, peach stone fruit, and bubble gum reminiscent of Beaujolais.
On the palate, the dry, medium-plus bodied Zweigelt is fresh with bright red (30%) and black (60%) fruit supported by medium-plus acidity and soft, ripe tannin.
The wine has a medium-plus finish with ripe, summer-fruit flavors.
A wining bottle from a winning varietal.
Bottle Note: The Weixelbaum Winery is a family business since 1770 and is constantly looking for consistently excellent wines. This Zweigelt is full of delicate cherry aromas and is very balanced. Goes well with beef, lamb, steaks, pasta and cheese.
