Chopo Monastrell 2015 – Average, Flabby & Slightly Out of Balance

Chopo, Monastrell 2015, Jumilla, Spain, Wine Casual

Chopo, Monastrell 2015, Jumilla, Spain

Tasting Note: An average monastrell (or mourvédre) from Spain that that doesn’t match in spirit with its snazzy label.

Medium-intensity ruby in color this wine has an aromatic nose of red plum, stewed black plum, bramble, raisin and violet.

On the palate the dry, medium-plus bodied wine displays black and red fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium-plus acidity and stalky, medium-plus tannin.

The wine is round, flabby and slightly out of balance with respect to fruit and acidity, yet the heart of the grape varietal clearly shows through.
