Ampakama, Syrah 2009, San Juan, Argentina
Tasting Note: This syrah is like a parodied TV version of a high school football player – it’s no push over, not complex and occasionally a slight bit bitter.
Inky and strong, black currant is the overwhelming taste. There is no finish to this wine. It is at the beginning of the taste what it is at the end. And for the record this can be a good thing.
Sometimes with the complexities of life, it’s nice to have something that’s predictably straight forward. This wine is that, and for the price not a bad sip. If only I’d made red meat for dinner.
Bottle Note: Wine exhibiting intense red coloring with blue tinges. On the nose, a complex mix of elegant aromas of ripe and red fruits combined with certain spiciness, typical of this varietal. Robust in the mouth, with a good structure and stabilized tannins. The ideal serving temperature is between 60 degrees and 64 degrees Fahrenheit.
