Esporão, Quinto Dos Murças, Minas 2018, Douro, Portugal
Tasting Note: Douro red blends don’t get as much press as its, older, more-popular brother Port, and you should use this market reality to benefit from under-the-radar, Douro red blends which offer great price-to-quality value including this wine which offers a pleasing potpourri of black fruit.
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of raspberry, blackberry, black plum, rhubarb, black cherry and rosehip.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied red blend has medium-plus-intensity, black-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and slightly-grippy, ripe, medium-plus tannin.
The wine has some notes of complexity along the midpalate with sparkles of red-fruit emerging every so often.
This is the sort of red blend that is a versatile dining pairing partner.
