McCay Cellars, Petite Sirah 2012, Lodi, California
Tasting Note: A voluptuous petite sirah with inky black fruit and baking spice that is very reminiscent of Michael David’s Petite Petite.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of black plum, black cherry, blackberry, boysenberry, clove baking spice and violet.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied petite sirah delivers medium-plus-intensity, black-fruit flavors along with notes of young cedar.
The wine has medium acidity and velvety, medium-plus tannin completing with a cedar-and-spice, medium-plus finish.
There is midpalate complexity, flavor intensity and body.
A uniquely Lodi petit sirah style may be in the making.
This wine definitely punches above its price point.
A great value.
Bottle Note: Sultry and complex with notes of ripe plums, dark berries, and a nuance of vanilla from oak regimen are present in this petite sirah. The wine starts a journey of complex layered berryliciousness, that moves down the road at a leisurely pace. Enjoy . . . .
