McCay Cellars Viognier 2014 – A Rhone-Styled Palate Cleanser

McCay Cellars, Viognier 2014, Lodi, California

Tasting Note: This viognier palate cleanser expresses a Rhone-styled, white wine structure.

Lemon yellow in color the wine has an aromatic nose of golden yellow fruit including peach and pear with notes of butterscotch and vanilla.

This is the winery’s first attempt at making viognier with this vintage and if this first attempt is any guide, they are well on their way to great vintages ahead.

The wine is made using indigenous yeast and on the palate it is medium bodied with tart, bright, high acidity showing itself ahead of the fruit.

Bottle Note: This viognier is true to form . . . full-bodied, with a lush soft character that is round in the mouth. Aromatics include notes of peach, pears, violets and beautiful minerality through the palate. Native fermentation and produced in stainless steel. Michael J. McCay, winemaker
