Pascal Aufranc, Vignes de 1939 Chénas en Rémont 2016, Beaujolais, France
Tasting Note: This Chénas reveals the beauty of cru Beaujolais with its depth of flavor combined with brightness of spirit.
Medium-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of red cherry, black plum, bruised raspberry, strawberry and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied Chénas has weight and structure supported by medium-plus-intensity flavors suggested on the nose, medium acidity and well-integrated, medium tannin.
There is midpalate complexity and flavor persistence that completes with a dark-fruit, medium-plus finish.
Gamay doesn’t always have to be fruity and simple; it can also be deep and complex as this Chénas reveals.
