Concha Y Toro, Marques de Casa Concha, Carmenere 2016, Peumo, Chile
Tasting Note: A carmenere with concentration, body and lots of generous fruit that would pair well with many-a-grilled meat dish.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic and pronounced-intensity nose of blackberry, tobacco, black plum, leather, kirsch and violet blossom.
On the palate the dry, full-bodied carmenere delivers robust black fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity, and ripe, medium-plus tannin.
The wine has midpalate complexity and completes with a medium-plus, tobacco-and plum-infused finish.
A very good carmenere.
Bottle Note: This carmenere comes from our historic Peumo Vineyard located on old river terraces above the north bank of the Cachapoal River in the Rapel Valley, 558 feet above sea level. This limited-production wine was aged in French oak barrels for at least 16 months. Striking yet elegant aromas of ripe dark fruits, spices and black pepper are synonymous with Peumo’s distinctive terroir. Oak aging lends delicious chocolate and vanilla notes to this voluptuous wine with sweet, round tannins and a long, elegant finish.
