Domaine de la Terre Rouge, Enigma 2009, Sierra Foothills, California
Tasting Note: A light, Rhône-styled, white blend.
Lemon in color this white blend of marsanne (45%), roussanne (29%) and viognier (26%) has a slightly wild, candied nose with some light, chalky vanilla.
On the palate the blend is dry with integrated tannin and medium acidity.
Bottle Note: These exotic grape varieties from the Northern Rhone Valley have inexplicably found another home in the granitic soils of the Sierra Nevada Foothills. We rely on traditional methods and spare no expense in producing this wine: whole-cluster pressing, barrel fermentation, and sur lie aging. This proprietary assemblage’s flavors are dry and expansive. Its exclusive aromas suggest apricot, green almond, and acacia blossom. By combining these varietals, we have created a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. – Bill and Jane Easton
