Domaine des Sanzay, Les Poyeux Saumur Champigny 2015, Loire, France
Tasting Note: This may well be the most intriguing bottle of terroir-centric, organic, Loire cabernet franc you’ll experience all year.
Deep-intensity purple in color and with a natural opaqueness that can result from indigenous-yeast fermentation, this wine has a nose of crushed violet petal, dried black plum, raspberry, strawberry, chocolate and forest floor.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied cabernet franc has additional, medium-plus-intensity flavors of pencil shavings, dried apricot, strawberry and dried red cherry supported by medium acidity and slightly grippy, ripe, medium-plus tannin.
The wine is creamy in texture and is hearty like a rustic, freshly-cut slice of bread baked in the countryside.
Delicious with sturdy bones.
