Drytown Cellars, Estate Syrah 2014, Sierra Foothills, California
Tasting Note: A syrah the shows the potential of the grape in Amador County.
Purple to ruby in color this wine has an aromatic nose of wild raspberry, black cherry, strawberry, black pepper and black currant along with cedar and vanilla and clove baking spice.
On the palate you get dry, just-ripened fruit with fine-grained, medium-plus tannin and medium acidity.
Fruit and tannin are in perfect balance in this medium-bodied syrah which has a distinctive untamed quality about it that is conquered in your mouth.
Notes of raisin infuse the finish.
Bottle Note: Drytown, in the heart of historic Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada foothills, was founded in 1848, making it oldest community in Amador County. Named for Dry Creek, the town was never “dry.” But was once home to more than 25 Saloons!
