Sunce Winery & Vineyard, Merlot 2013, Cousins Vineyard, Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California
Tasting Note: A merlot with a supple, yet concentrated body and lots of brooding black fruit that reminds you why America fell in love with this grape originally.
Deep-intensity ruby in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of black plum, blackberry, red cherry, bramble, chocolate, raspberry blossom and vanilla baking spice.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied merlot presents rich, medium-plus-intensity, black-fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and smooth, ripe, medium tannin.
The wine has midpalate concentration and body to stand up to steak and would pair well with a host of grilled meats including flattened, grilled chicken which I’m enjoying today.
Bottle Note: Sunce is a family winery located in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County – specializing in small artisan lots of vineyard designated varietal wine and classic blends. This 100% merlot tantalizes the senses with minty tea, plummy aromas, and flavors of dark dusty blackberry fruit laced with subtle herbs and truffles. It finishes long and soft, smoky and dry. We enjoy it with grilled steak, Beef Stroganoff, Beef Bourguignon, or any beef entrée. – Frane Franicevic, Winemaker. Only 300 cases made.
