Sunce Winery & Vineyard, Old Vines Carignane 2013, Bartolomei Vineyards, Mendocino County, California
Tasting Note: Classic carignane done in a riper style that accentuates black fruit over red fruit.
Deep-intensity purple in color, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of blackberry, raspberry, strawberry, red cherry and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied carignane has medium-intensity flavors suggested on the nose supported by medium acidity and smooth, medium-plus tannin with tart, black fruit at the end of the medium finish.
There is some midpalate complexity with bright fruit.
Bottle Note: Sunce is a family winery located in the Russian River Valley appellation of Sonoma County – specializing in small artisan lots of vineyard designated varietal wine and classic blends. Bright red fruits led by Bing cherry mingle with chili spices tamed by floral qualities and earthy undertones. A medium body of fleshy red fruits gives way to a clean minerality that lingers through to the finish, leaving a surprisingly creamy fruit aftertaste. Pairs well with spicy savory dishes, cleansing the palate between bites. Only 11 barrels made.
