A.A. Badenhorst Family Wines, Secateurs, Chenin Blanc 2017, Swartland, South Africa
Tasting Note: A bright, refreshing chenin blanc with flavor concentration and depth in a classic South African style.
Pale-intensity gold in color, this wine has an aromatic nose of honey, green apple, apricot, dried fruit and blossom.
On the palate the dry, medium-bodied chenin blanc has tart, green fruit flavors and midpalate complexity ultimately completing with a slightly-floral, medium-plus finish.
Bottle Note: Secateurs are the pruning shears that shape the vines – a tribute to the workers who are already crafting the wine during the cold winters of the Cape. This wine is made by the Badenhorst Family who have been producing quality wines for three generations in South Africa. The grapes were hand-harvested from selected old bushvine vineyards on granite slopes. In the cellar traditional winemaking methods are followed with natural fermentation in old casks and concrete vats. This detail results in wines from fine complexity and a unique character. This wine can be enjoyed now or with careful cellaring over the next couple of year.
