Letrari, Talento Brut Riserva 2014, Trento DOC, Italy
Tasting Note: It’s time to start looking for Trento DOC sparkling wine from Italy, the first traditional method DOC in Italy that is producing sparkling wine from grapes grown on the steep hills of the Dolomites.
This bottle will make you want to search out more Trento DOC wines after you’ve had your fill of Prosecco and are looking for a more complex, substantial Italian sparkler.
Medium-intensity gold in color with tight, small bubbles, this wine has an aromatic, medium-plus-intensity nose of golden apple, overripe green pear, orange zest, white peach, brioche and nectarine stonefruit.
On the palate the dry, medium-plus-bodied Trento DOC sparkling wine has tart, medium-intensity fruit flavors suggested on the nose supported by high acidity and completing with a medium-plus finish.
The wine expresses complexity along the midpalate as a result of lees aging yielding a subtle yeasty character under a layer of fruit.
A substantial sparkling wine for a substantial evening.
