Lomas Del Valle, Cabernet Franc 2010, Casablanca Valley, Chile
Tasting Note: A surprisingly black fruit forward cab franc that deliciously expresses its South American, Casablanca Valley terroir and sun.
This aromatic purple-to-ruby colored cabernet franc fills the air with red and black fruit perfume as soon as you open the bottle.
On the nose there is intense blackberry and black cherry more intense than any cab franc I’ve ever sampled especially as many cabernet francs lead with red fruit such as red plum rather than black fruit.
While there are trace notes of red plum, there is also green pepper, black currant, clove and butterscotch with aromas of damp earth.
After taking in the wine on the nose you will be tempted to taste it immediately, but don’t give in quite yet.
Allow yourself time to take in and sift through the layers.
On the palate the wine is medium plus in body, tannin and acidity.
Aromas on the nose carry to the palate as flavors with black fruit in the lead supported by blueberry.
This cabernet franc will make you pucker which may hit you as somewhat of a surprise given the ripe black fruit on the nose that would suggest a wine richer in fruit and lower in acidity.
The wine displays mid-palate complexity weighted towards the back of your mouth where tannin kicks in and completes with a long finish.
This cabernet franc could hold its own with a steak and more.
Bottle Note: Lomas Del Valle, estate bottled, elaborates its wine with own grapes from Casablanca Valley. This attractive wine you are about to enjoy is a true reflection of the privileged climatic conditions at Loma Larga Estate, thus allowing outstanding natural acidity and freshness in all our wines. Hope you enjoy it!
